Musician in Disguise

Musician in Disguise

By Eesha Raheel, staff reporter

If you go to the World Journalism Preparatory School you may have had Mr. Andrew Gembara as your history teacher. However, did you know along with being a teacher he’s also a musician.

His musicsal journey started when he was in third grade when he had to fill out a form on what instrument he wanted to play. In high school he did not belong to any particular group as he was a musician and an athlete so he had several groups of friends.

Mr. Gembara thinks that in school he’s good with words, but not in the outside world and that’s where he uses music to communicate.

“I have a difficult time communicating sometimes, and music is a different language that helps me  communicate better,” said Gembara.

Some of his favorite music that he listens to includes: funk, metal and anything that speaks to him and makes him feel something. He likes being on the road whenever he can and feels fortunate to be in a group that is successful.

“I’m usually on the road with whoever will take me and I play two completely different roles in my life, the role of teaching and music,” said Gembara.

He thinks going on tour benefits him socially too as he gets to make connections that could be valuable in the future and gets an opportunity to make friends that have something in common with him.

He’s almost been everywhere in the country for music and meeting different musicians has made him see the world through many different people’s perspectives.

Mr. Gembara brings that to his classroom by sharing those experiences with his students, making the class environment even more fun. He loves the fact that his life is not just about being locked up in the classroom. He lives in a completely different world outside school.
